Emily Troyer, a junior next year at Lakeland High School and a second year art student under the direction of Terry Gust, worked about three weeks designing a cover for the upcoming book, Buddy’s Buds.
Buddy’s Budsis a book written by local students and adults in the county that have shared stories through their pet’s eyes. There are about 400 stories and the book will be available in mid-June for a donation with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the Ark Animal Sanctuary to help with the animals’ care.
Since she mainly works in black and white, creating an illustration in color was something she had never done and a new challenge she faced with enthusiasm. “I like a good challenge,” Troyer stated. “I wanted an opportunity like this and I would do it again.”
While dogs are not something new as she has two at home – a corgi and a dachshund – Troyer only recently met Buddy for the first time.
Copies of Buddy’s Buds will be available at My Father’s Business in LaGrange, the LaGrange County Convention and Visitors Bureau in Shipshewana, Paws and Claws Bookstore in Howe, Shipshewana Flea Market Booth 507 near Gate 11, Puppy Love in Howe, Serenity Nails in LaGrange, and Emma Cafe in Emma.
