Stolen truck recovered after police chase; suspect being sought

Shortly after 4 a.m. on September 8, an officer from the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department attempted to make a traffic stop on a 2001 Ford F-250 pickup belonging to J and R Construction of Shipshewana in the vicinity of CR 675W and 200N. The driver of the truck refused to stop and a pursuit was initiated.

The truck was pursued by officers for several miles before the driver jumped out of the moving vehicle in the 7000W block of CR 500N. The driver fled south on foot into a heavily wooded area, where officers lost sight of him. There were no K-9 units available at that time so officers were unable to track the subject.

After unsuccessfully checking the area for some time, officers contacted the owner of J and R Construction, who discovered that the truck had been stolen from the company’s office on CR 675W sometime after 4 p.m. on September 7.

The suspect is described as a white male in his late teens or early 20s, approximately 6 ft. tall and weighing approximately 150 pounds. At the time of the incident, the suspect was wearing a light blue T-shirt and blue jeans with a white baseball cap.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department at 463-7491 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-342-STOP.
