On Feb. 25, the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department received a call from St. Joseph County, Mich., regarding a subject they had in custody, Trey Ashbrook. According to the police report, Ashbrook was involved in a short vehicle pursuit involving a possible stolen vehicle from LaGrange County. Further investigation revealed that sometime during the early morning hours Ashbrook dumped a vehicle that had allegedly been stolen from Sturgis in a field at the corner of CR 700N and CR 100E. Ashbrook walked to a residence on CR 700N and found keys in a 1994 Mercury at that residence, then headed back to the Sturgis area in the second stolen vehicle, where he was involved in a pursuit with Michigan authorities and apprehended.
Charges will be forwarded to the LaGrange County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
