There was some difference in the insurance proposals presented at the Monday county commissioners meeting. Yoder Insurance of Shipshewana, the current carrier for the 10 major classifications of county insurance, had a combined quote of $516,480. Stanner Insurance Services of Howe quoted was read as $375,890. This amount did not include workers comp insurance of $136,000.
The two quotes were taken under advisement and will be reviewed and compared by County Attorney Kurt Bachman before a decision is made.
The county effective date for insurance coverage is April 1.
Appraisals have been received from Appraisal Research for the land right-of-way proposed along SR 9 for a water line. The water line will extend from the south side of Fawn River to the Exo-s property south of CR 700N.
County Auditor Kay Myers was presented with the $2,200 bill for the appraisal work and Keith Gillenwater, president of the LaGrange County Economic Development Corporation, was asked to assist the county attorney’s office with making contact with landowners that are affected.
