Splash Universe kicks off annual food drive

SplashUniverse Water ParkResort in Shipshewana will be collecting canned goods and dry goods during the first three weeks of November, with all items to benefit the LaGrange County Clothes and Food Basket.

This year’s drive aims to collect more than 6,000 cans of food and supplies for local pantries. Each participant who brings in 10 non-perishable food items or more will receive half off one water park day pass admission. Collection boxes are located in the Splash Universe Gift Shop. Donations will also be accepted at the front desk.

“Splash Universe’s food drive efforts are a great example of what’s happening nationwide,” said General Manager Kyle Hovermale. “More so now than ever, we are stepping up to serve our communities. Kids and their families are realizing that hunger is a reality in every town, not only in our most challenged communities. The entire Splash Universe family should be proud of this effort.”

Another unique aspect of Splash Universe’s drive is a real focus on “giving the good stuff,” which encourages families to donate the kinds of foods that have the most impact at a pantry – such as peanut butter, canned meats and tuna fish and canned vegetables – rather than less nutritious snack items or even simply those foods from the back of the cabinet that rarely get eaten. Also, clothing items are accepted as well as outside wear and bed linens.

Supporters can track the success of Splash Universe’s drive on their Facebook page and website at Splashuniverse.com.
