Smith given top Lions Club award

On June 18, Alice and Dave Watson opened their home on South Twin Lake for a Howe Lions chicken barbecue dinner and annual installation banquet.

During the evening, Tom Smith of Howe received the Melvin Jones Fellow achievement award from President Jeff Schrader, which is the highest award a Lion can receive in the organization. Smith is a past president and 35-year member of the Howe Lions Club. Melvin Jones was the founder of Lions Clubs International and the award is only given to well deserving Lions.

New officers were sworn in by zone chairman Alana Kaufman of Topeka, of which Shane Reidinger was sworn in as president for 2014-2015.

Final plans were made for the annual ice cream social and raffle to be held on June 28, starting at 4:30 p.m. in the Howe Town Square.
