Shipshewana Parks seeking public input

The Shipshewana Park Department is hosting a public participation meeting to discuss a Five Year Park and Recreation Master Plan.

The public meeting will be held on October 17, 2012, at 6:00 p.m. at the Wolfe Community Building, located at 345 N. Morton Street, Shipshewana, IN 46565. Representatives from Region III-A Economic Development District and Regional Planning Commission will attend to present information and seek public input for the development of the plan.

Public participation is important in determining the goals and direction of the Shipshewana Parks Department, as well as determining the recreational needs of the area residents. In addition, a 5-Year Park Master Plan is required by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to apply for federal grant funding for both Land and Water Conservation Fund and the Recreational Trails Program. DNR Division of Outdoor Recreation Grant programs could possibly assist the Park Department with meeting goals designed within the approved Shipshewana Parks and Recreation 5-Year Master Plan.

Community Planner Kristine Christlieb said of the plan, “The more public participation we receive, the better the results of the plan in assisting with the needs and goals of the community.” Christlieb goes on to say, “So if the community desires an effective park plan, public input is imperative.”

The public is invited to join in the discussion and assist with determining the goals and objectives of the Shipshewana Five Year Park and Recreation Master Plan. For additional information, please contact Kristine Christlieb at 260-347-4714 between the hours of 7:30 – 4:00.
