Shipshewana has new police officer

On Feb. 3, the Shipshewana Police Department hired Derek L. Baldridge to fill a recently vacated full-time deputy position.

Deputy Baldridge, a former reserve deputy for the Shipshewana Police Department and the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department, was currently working as full time police officer in North Manchester, Ind.

Baldridge graduated from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in 2011 and has attended numerous law enforcement specialty schools.

A 2007 graduate of Lakeland High School, Baldridge was a standout student–athlete and is a lifelong resident of LaGrange County.

Baldridge is currently attending Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne (IPFW) and is in his last semester of study for a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice.

The department noted that Baldridge “is going to be a great asset to the Shipshewana Police Department and the citizens of Shipshewana.”
