Shipshewana expects over 2,500 people at its quilt festival

On June 20, Shipshewana will become a veritable quilter’s mecca when over 2,500 guests are expected to journey there for the four-day Shipshewana Quilt Festival.

Along with a juried quilt and vendor show and workshops, several special events will also take place as part of the Quilt Festival.

Meet Ricky Tims...

Attendees will have an opportunity to meet and learn from internationally-renowned quilter, teacher, and musician Ricky Tims.

Tims’ innovative and entertaining presentations feature live music and humor combined with instructive insights, stories, and inspiration about the art of quilting. His quilts have been displayed worldwide and are highly regarded as excellent examples of contemporary quilts with traditional appeal.

Tims began designing and making quilts in 1991. He was recently selected as one of the “Thirty Most Distinguished Quilters in the world.” Tims was also named one of the three most influential people in the quilting industry for 2009 by Quilters Newsletter Magazine.

Quilt festival attendees can purchase tickets for one of four different 90-minute entertaining demonstrations.

Shop Hop...

Six different quilting retailers will open their doors to Quilt Festival guests who have purchased Shop Hop passports.

In celebration of the new LaGrange County Barn Quilt Tour, the theme of this year’s Shop Hop is “Barn Quilts.” Each location will give a pattern representative of a barn quilt mural to each participant of the Shop Hop.

Guests who visit all six locations will be entered into a drawing for other prizes.

Special exhibit...

The private collection of Sue Reich’s World War II quilts will be exhibited alongside the world’s largest display of Hudson cars from the 1900s in the Hostetler’s Hudson Auto Museum located inside the Shipshewana Town Center.

The exhibit will be comprised of over 30 quilts and tops, along with ephemera that include photographs, V-mail, ration books, and other items to anchor the quilts historically in time.

This exhibit of quilts has visited renowned places such as the National Quilt Museum, the New England Quilt Museum, and the Huntsville Museum of Art.

Enrollment...

On-site enrollment opens Tuesday, June 19, at noon and continues through Friday, June 22.
