The council approved the purchase of a new patrol car for the Shipshewana Police Department. The council approved the bid of $22,933 from Sorg Dodge of Goshen.
The council also approved the purchase of two portable radios and a base unit for the police department at $1,300 each. Town Marshal Tom Fitch told the council that with the department at full staffing, they are two radios short for the newest reserve officers.
Fitch also told the council that the department is looking to use a volunteer on bike patrols this summer. Austin Miller had applied for a reserve position but is not yet 21 years old, Fitch explained, but the department can still use him on bike patrol.
