Shipshewana approves bond call on event center

The Shipshewana Town Council approved a recommendation to call the last four years of the 2006 bonds that financed the Shipshewana Event Center.

The council approved using $1.3 million from the TIF district to pay for the last four years of the bonds. The move is expected to save the town $7,750 per month.

In other business:

The board discussed the town’s health insurance coverage and authorized town manager Mike Sutter to enter into coverage that is as close to the current coverage, at the lowest cost, possible.

The fire department was approved to purchase ice rescue equipment with money from its gift fund.

It was announced that November 25 would be the final day for leaf pickup in town. It was also requested that residents put leaves in a pile at the curb and not spread out as much.
