Selena Yoder crowned 2013 Corn School Queen

Selena Yoder was sure it was a mistake. “I was just waiting to be told it was a mistake,” she said a few times moments after being crowned the 2013 LaGrange County Corn School Queen Thursday evening at the courthouse gazebo.

Selena, the daughter of Kristin Yoder of LaGrange, is a senior at Lakeland High School and confided that she had even thought of dropping out of the contest after she met the other contestants. “I didn’t think I’d ever get this,” she said as she was surrounded by friends, family and the other contestants, all congratulating her.

Yoder was sponsored by All Cut Up and Chicago Joe’s. She plans to attend college to become a special education/early intervention teacher, following in her mother’s footsteps.

First runner-up in the Corn School Queen contest was Paige Frost, a junior at Lakeland High School and the daughter of Matthew and Heather Frost of LaGrange.

Howe School junior Stacy Zapolsky was second runner-up. Zapolsky is a native of Minsk, Belarus and the daughter of Andrei and Natalia Zapolsky.

Cassandra Glick, daughter of Eric and Andrea Glick of Orland, was named Miss Congeniality. She is a senior at Prairie Heights High School.

Arikka Mygrant, daughter of Rodney and Shannon Mygrant of Wolcottville, won the talent portion of the contest Wednesday evening.
