During the 2013 spring semester, Lakeland student Sam Miller of LaGrange worked one hour each school day as a volunteer intern at the LaGrange County Community Foundation (LCCF) in addition to his membership in LIFE.
In that capacity and under the direct supervision of Youth Development Coordinator Laney Kratz, he gained hands-on experience helping to plan and execute key foundation events, work in communications, and manage LIFE and LCCF grant processes.
Miller’s internship was one of 248 intern assignments among the Lakeland High School student body during this school year – real work assignments out in the real world in addition to the educational effort in the classroom. Forty of those hands-on internships involved experience within community service organizations. These internships represent an outstanding opportunity to more effectively educate and invest young people in the local economy and the community’s commitment to philanthropic action.
