Ruth B. Schlemmer, 97, LaGrange, died Sunday, October 14, 2012 at Miller’s Merry Manor of LaGrange.
She was born August 8, 1915, in Akron, Ohio, to Elmer and Margaret (Witt) Brunner.
Moving from Akron, Ohio, to LaGrange in 1938, she was a caseworker for the LaGrange County Welfare Department as well as a bookkeeper at the family business, Schlemmer’s Hardware. She was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, Sylvan Chapter #251 Order of the Eastern Star, and Delta Theta Tau Sorority.
She was married November 11, 1940, in Howe, to Verne S. Schlemmer. He preceded her in death on May 3, 2008.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Ann and David Bricker, Howe, one son and daughter-in-law, Frederick “Fritz” and Diane Schlemmer, LaGrange; four grandchildren, Brent Schlemmer, Indianapolis, Mark Schlemmer, New York, N.Y., Jennifer (Richard) McBride, Howe, and Julie (Dana) Hochstetler, Howe; nine great-grandchildren, Ogden Schlemmer, Alton Schlemmer, Jon Bollinger, Matt Bollinger, Kalei Bollinger, Logan Hochstetler, Janessa Hochstetler, Jillian Hochstetler, and Abby Hochstetler; and two sisters, Myra Brunner and Ann McBride, both of California.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Luella Case and Betty Chlysta, and one grandson, Andrew Bricker.
Visitation is 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, October 20, at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in LaGrange.
Memorial services will be noon Saturday, October 20, at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in LaGrange with Reverend Sandra Hutchens and Reverend Tom McSchannock officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, LaGrange.
Memorials may be contributed to the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church.
