Roger Burlingame

    Roger D. Burlingame, 78, Fremont, Ind., died Thursday, May 29, 2014 at his residence.

    He was born September 5, 1935, in Angola, Ind., to Ivan L. and Ruth (Duguid) Burlingame.

    Raised on the family farm, he was a 1953 graduate of Fremont High School. His early years of work included surveying for the construction of the Indiana Toll Road. He then worked for the Toll Road Commission for 10 years. He was also loan officer for the Litchfield State Bank in Camden, Mich., for a short time.  The bulk of his career was with the Steuben County REMC, where he started in 1966 and later served as the general manager for 18 years, retiring in 1998. He was also a lifelong farmer. After his retirement, he restored and refurbished antique Farmall tractors. He was a member of the Antique Tractors Association, member with his wife of the Pinochle Club for 58 years, a 50-year member of Fremont Masonic Lodge #210, F & AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Ft. Wayne, Angola Moose Lodge #1568, and the Fremont United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department Merit Board and Steuben County 4-H Fair Board.

    He was married October 23, 1955 to Rose M. Mitchell. She survives.

    Also surviving are two sons, Jeff (Lisa) Burlingame, Angola, Ind., and Craig (Laura) Burlingame, Fremont, Ind.; eight grandchildren, Alyssa (Adam) Blonde, Zachary Burlingame, Jordan Burlingame, Caitlin Burlingame (Leo Song), Audra Burlingame (Chad Martin), Evan Burlingame, Nicholas Burlingame, and Bailey Eberts; four great-grandchildren, Alivia, Alaina, Ariana Grace, and Alexis; one brother, Loren (Sheryl) Burlingame, Union City, Mich., and his beloved springer spaniel, Bo.

    He was preceded in death by his parents.

    Funeral services were held Monday, June 2, at Beams Funeral Home in Fremont, Ind., with Reverend Darin Hendrey officiating.

    Burial is in Jamestown Cemetery, Fremont, Ind.

    Memorials may be directed to Fremont United Methodist Church, Fremont Masonic Lodge #210 F & AM, or Steuben County Humane Society.
