Rodney Kay “RK” Smith, 69, Shipshewana, died Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at his residence.
He was born May 21, 1945, in Canton, Ohio, to Howard and Gladys (Pettay) Smith.
He was honorably discharged from the USMC in 1963 and retired from the Canton Police Department in 1999 after serving 25 years. He was a U.S. Marshall from 1999-2001 and most recently worked security at Greencroft and Coachmen. He was member of the F.O.P. and the American Legion.
Surviving are three daughters, Wendy K. Smith, Massillon, Ohio, Pamela (Brian) Wise, Southington, Ohio, and Amanda (Matthew) Stanfield, Mansfield, Ohio; one son, Rodney D. Smith, Sumter, S.C.; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandson; four brothers, Paul Smith, Massillon, Ohio, L. David Smith, Colorado Springs, Colo., Harold D. Smith, New Philadelphia, Ohio, and Danny Smith, Raytown, Mo.; one sister, Jonquil Canfield, Simpsonville, S.C.; and his companion, Vicki Kahler.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Howard C. Smith.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Thursday, August 7, at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home in Middlebury and 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, August 12, at the First Baptist Church of Jackson.
Memorial Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 12, at the First Baptist Church of Jackson with Pastor Tom Gang officiating. Military honors will be given following the service.
Memorials may be directed to Parkview Hospice and Brethren Retreat at Shipshewana Lake.
