Robert Weaver & Joan Weaver

Robert M. “Bob” Weaver, 84, Big Long Lake, died Thursday, June 6, 2013, at Presence Sacred Heart Home in Avilla.

    Joan Elizabeth Weaver, 84, Big Long Lake, died Sunday, June 9, 2013, at Presence Sacred Heart Home in Avilla.

    Robert was born July 26, 1928, in Ft. Wayne, to Theodore and Margaret (Martin) Weaver.

    Joan was born March 11, 1929, in Ft. Wayne, to Charles and Bernadine (Denzil) Dirig.

    They returned to this area from Arizona in 1988. Robert worked at ITT in Ft. Wayne for 28 years. He retired in 1988 as an engineer from Litton Industries in Tempe, Ariz. He was also a master carpenter and did cabinetry and sheet metal work. He was a Boy Scout leader for many years and a member of the National Rifle Association. Joan worked as an office manager for doctors in Virginia and Arizona. She retired as secretary of St. Gaspar Catholic Church in Rome City. They were members of St. Gaspar Catholic Church in Rome City and Joan was a member of the Rosary Sodality.

    They were married June 10, 1950 in Ft. Wayne.

    Surviving are two sons, Lynn R. (Laura) Weaver, Adams Lake, and Gary C. Weaver, Ft. Wayne; one daughter, Diane S. (Tom) Cassady, Arvada, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Robert is also survived by two brothers, Richard Weaver, Murray, Ky., and Ted Weaver, Auburn, Ind.; one sister, Marie (Lloyd) France, Butler, Ind.; and a sister-in-law, Phyllis Weaver, Dayton, Ohio. Joan is also survived by three sisters, Charlene (Tom) Strawser, Indianapolis, Ind., Clarita (Dick) Miller, Ft. Wayne, and Agnes (Dick) Hollar, Comstock, Wisc.; and a brother-in-law, Jack Schall, Ft. Wayne.

    Robert was preceded in death by one brother, James Weaver, and three sisters-in-law, Janice Weaver, Nancy Weaver, and Marilyn Weaver.  Joan was preceded in death by two sisters, Rose Ann Schall and Dorothy Jean Bennett, and two brothers-in-law, Chuck Kocks and Tom Bennett.  They were also preceded in death by one grandson.

    Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, June 13, at Young Family Funeral Home Wolcottville Chapel with a Rosary service at 3:30 p.m. Visitation will also be from 9-10 a.m. Friday, June 14, at Young Family Funeral Home Wolcottville Chapel.

    Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 14, at St. Gaspar Catholic Church in Rome City with co-celebrants Fr. Matt Jozefiak, Fr. Jim Miller, and Fr. Charles Mullen officiating.

    Burial will be in St. Gaspar Catholic Cemetery, Rome City.

    Memorials may be directed to Presence Sacred Heart Home or masses to the church.
