Robert J. McNamara, 77, Stroh, died Saturday, October 12, 2013 at his son’s residence in Topeka.
He was born October 16, 1935, in Kendallville, Ind., to Robert M. McNamara and Alta May (Gillespie) Hite. He was raised by his stepfather, Harold L. Hite.
He was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1953-57. His first job as a meat cutter was in the 1940s at Yoder Butchering in Kendallville. He then went to work for the state of Indiana in the 1950s, inspecting new road construction projects. Later he worked as a meat cutter with Old Hoosier Meats in Middlebury and then EconoMart in Wolcottville. He previously owned and operated the Cree Lake Grocery Store before retiring from Scott's Foods meat department in 2001.
He was married December 18, 1989, in LaGrange, to Annettie Jean Conley. She survives at Hickory Creek of Kendallville.
Also surviving are three sons and two daughters-in-law, Terry McNamara, Kendallville, Ind., Jay and Teresa McNamara, Albion, Ind., and John and Ann McNamara, Topeka; two stepdaughters, Charlene Martin, Angola, Ind., and Wanda Bolen, Fremont, Calif.; one stepson, Edward Bolen, LaGrange; 22 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather, one daughter, Sue Bloomfield, one infant grandson, Steven McNamara, one great-grandchild, Annalyse Marie McNamara, and one stepbrother, Robert "Jake" Hite.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Monday, October 14, at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville, Ind.
Funeral serviceswill be 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 15, at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville, Ind., with Pastor Tamra Gerber officiating.
Burialwith military honors by Rome City American Legion Post 381 and Kendallville VFW Post 2749 will be in Woodruff Cemetery, LaGrange County.
