Robert Long

July 13, 1925 – March 24, 2012

Robert Allen Long, beloved son of Pius and IO (Adams) Long (deceased) of LaGrange County, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 24, 2012, surrounded by his daughters and granddaughters.

Bob was the father of Robin Long Hume, Renee Long Prevaiz (Tariq), Roberta Long (Chuck Ashe), Rebecca Long Ruffin (Ric), and Rhonda Long Leffler (Richard) and honored brother of Madola Long Sprague (deceased), Giles Long (deceased), Clarence Long (deceased), Mildred Long Knapp (deceased), and Marjorie Long Clum residing in Michigan.

Stories are told of his closeness to his grandchildren- Christian Crill (Christina), Shumilia Kinnear (John), Fatima Pervaiz, Rose Ashe, and Olivia Ruffin, and great granddaughters Paige Crill, Annabella Kinnear, and Adeline Kinnear.

Bobby enjoyed nothing better than a good game of chance, a walk with his dog Buddy in the woods or a day surrounded by his family and friends.

His treasured friends and family will never forget his love of going out to dinner, flying, driving his car, fishing in Minnesota or hosting the Long Family Reunions at his Howe Farm.

All of us who love him, knew he always liked to “walk on the sunny side of the street,” and used his catch phrase “smile and very, very friendly” on his voice mail.  This was quintessential Bob Long.

His gregarious personality made him a 1st class salesman and helped him make a success of his RV Company – Space Age Campers.

Bob served with honor in World War II as Air Force Pilot, maintained his connection to the Military his entire life, and retired as an Air Force Major.

His memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday, April 1, 2012 at the LaGrange American Legion Post 215, 100 Industrial Parkway, LaGrange.
