Robert D. Fanning, 87, Angola, Ind., died Sunday, November 11, 2012 at his residence.
He was born November 1, 1925, in Angola, Ind., to Dale and Wildus (Dailey) Fanning.
He retired from Dana-Weatherhead in Angola, Ind., and was a former car salesman. Living in Ohio for a short time when he was young, he also lived in Kendallville, Albion, and Avilla, Ind., and then moved to the family farm near Golden Lake in Steuben County and later moved to Angola, where he lived for the past 20 years with Gladys Barron. He attended Flint and Angola schools. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member of Orland American Legion Post 423.
Surviving are his companion, Gladys Barron, Angola, Ind.; four children, Al and Chrissy Fanning, Fremont, Ind., Lana Jo and Jack Jeffrey, Centreville, Mich., Debbie Ann and Wade Sturdivant, LaGrange, and Shirley and Charlie Cameron, Angola, Ind.; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two grandchildren, and five sisters, Marcella Seavey, Maxine Woodworth, June Marks, Phyllis Lobbdel, Mary Lou Johnson.
Services were held Thursday, November 15, at Beams Funeral Home in Fremont, Ind., with Pastor David Wilson officiating.
Burial is in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Angola, Ind.
