Robert Burroughs Jr.

Robert G. Burroughs Jr., 81, LaGrange, died Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at Parkview LaGrange Hospital.

    He was born June 15, 1933, in Sidney, Ohio, to Robert W. and Waneta I. (Evans) Burroughs.

    Living most of his lifetime in LaGrange County, he worked for 39 years at LaGrange County REMC, retiring as the manager. He was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy and a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in LaGrange, Meridian Sun Lodge #76 F & AM in LaGrange, which he was a past worshipful master, Ft. Wayne Valley Scottish Rite, Mizpah Shrine, LaGrange County Shrine Club, and Sylvan Chapter #251 Order of Eastern Star of LaGrange and the former LaGrange County Lions Club.  He was the recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash award in 1995, was a 50-year member of LaGrange American Legion Post 215, a former member of the LaGrange County Police Merit Board, and a former board member of Wabash Valley Power Association.

    He was married April 5, 1953, in LaGrange, to Margo J. Paulus. She preceded him in death on June 18, 2010.

    Surviving are two daughters and one son-in-law, Catherine Schweitzer, White House, Tenn., and Roberta “Bobbi” and Dick Craig, LaGrange; three sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Kate Burroughs, Carmel, Ind., David and Jenny Burroughs, Wolcottville, and Michael and Cathy Burroughs, Howe; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.

    He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Nyla Olds.

    Visitation is 9-11 a.m. Friday, October 24, at Frurip-May Funeral Home in LaGrange.

    Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, October 24, at Frurip-May Funeral Home in LaGrange with Reverend Kenneth Weaver officiating.

    Burial with military rites by LaGrange American Legion Post 215 will be in Greenwood Cemetery, LaGrange.

    Memorials may be directed to Mt. Zion Lutheran Church or Parkview Home Health and Hospice.
