LaGrange County’s newest river adventure business, T & L Country Canoes, LLC, is planning a Labor Day Weekend MDA Benefit to tie in to the annual fundraiser of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). On Saqturday and Sunday, Aug. 31 and Sept. 1, during normal business hours, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., the business will donate a portion of each sale to the MDA, a non-profit health agency dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases by funding worldwide research as well as providing support on a local basis to those affected.
According to the MDA of Northeast Indiana, there are nearly 700 individuals living with neuromuscular disease in Northeast Indiana who benefit from programs such as a children’s summer camp at Camp Potawatomi, MDA clinics at three area hospitals, the repair and loaning out of medical equipment, and local support groups and seminars.
T & L owners Tim and Lori Mullins said they were inspired to host the benefit by their nephew, who had a form of muscular dystrophy and passed away in 2002. For each canoe or kayak trip sold on August 31 or September 1 costing under $25, they will donate $2, and for every trip totaling $25 or more, they will give $5 to MDA. An MDA benefit raffle will also be held for a free canoe or kayak trip from T & L along with some MDA-provided raffle prizes.
T & L Country Canoes is located at 5775W 750N, seven miles north of Shipshewana. For more information on T & L or its upcoming MDA benefit, visit www.tlcountrycanoesllc.com or call 260-562-2411. To learn more about MDA, go to www.mda.org.
