Ride worker arrested at fair

While on foot patrol at the LaGrange County 4-H Fair Wednesday evening, a LaGrange County Sheriff Deputy was asked for assistance by the Carnival Manager. The manager asked for help with a short-term employee that he had hired the day before and appeared to be intoxicated.

The officer observed the suspect operating a children’s carnival ride with approximately three children on it. The officer’s observations led him to believe the individual may be intoxicated and he approached the subject before any other children could go on the ride.

The suspect was identified at Melvin R. Martin, 52, LaGrange. It was determined that Martin had consumed alcohol and was consuming alcohol while operating the children’s ride.

Martin’s preliminary breath test showed .21 percent BAC at the time of his arrest. Martin was taken to the LaGrange County Jail on a preliminary charge of Public Intoxication.
