Richard Dean “Dick” Sanders, 87, Orland, Ind., died Sunday, July 6, 2014 at Lakeland Nursing Center of Angola, Ind.
He was born April 10, 1927, in Elkhart, Ind., to Paul and Hazel (Fisher) Sanders.
He retired as a truck driver from Indianhead Truck Lines in Sturgis, Mich. He was a WWII Army veteran, serving in France. He was a member of Orland American Legion Post 423 and was a former volunteer fireman for Orland.
He was married January 29, 1949, to Marian Ernestine (Beaver) Sanders. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Jerry Nichols, Orland, Ind.; one son and daughter-in-law, Sheldon and Kim Sanders, Orland, Ind.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one stepsister, Donna Rigg; and his pet deer “Budweiser.”
He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepmother, Lucille Sanders.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Thursday, July 10, at Beams Funeral Home in Fremont, Ind.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 11, at Orland United Methodist Church with Pastor Craig Johnson officiating.
Burial with military honors by Orland American Legion Post 423 will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Orland, Ind.
Memorials may be directed to the Steuben County Humane Society, Orland United Methodist Church, or Orland Fire and Rescue.
