Reverend Cletus E. Hirschy, 95, Bradenton, Fla., died Tuesday, October 15, 2013.
He was born July 25, 1918, in LaGrange County, to Manes and Stella (Gates) Hirschy.
He graduated from Lima High School, Manchester College, and Boston Theological Seminary in Boston, Mass. He was ordained in the Methodist Church on May 31, 1953. He served churches in North Manchester, Westford, Massachusetts, Ft. Wayne, Youngstown, Ohio, Washington, D.C., and College Park, Md. He also served as chaplain at Parkview Hospital in Ft. Wayne. He retired in 1997 to Bradenton, Fla.
He was married October 18, 1946 to Betty Gloor. She preceded him in death on August 10, 1987. He was married May 5, 1990, in Ft. Wayne, to Janet Brubaker. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Stanley Houck, Lanham, Md.; one son, David Hirschy, Muncie, Ind.; one stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Jane Sizemore, Milwaukee, Wisc.; one stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Linda and David Ramirez, Chicago, Ill.; one granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Kali and John Rechtzigel, Lanham, Md.; two stepgrandchildren, Ryan and Erin Ramirez, Chicago, Ill.; two great-grandchildren, Ellie and Karlie, Lanham, Md.; a sister-in-law, Betty Hirschy, Oliver Lake; eight nephews, DeLayne and Carrol Hirschy, Greenville, Mich., LaWayne and Pauline Hirschy, Colon, Mich., Vernon Hirschy, Bronson, Mich., Don Hirschy, Sturgis, Mich., Earlin Hirschy, Huntertown, Gordon Hirschy, Ft. Wayne, Gerald Hirschy, Wilkinson, Ind., and Gail and Barbara Hirschy, Blacksburg, S.C.; and three nieces, Jeanine Hirschy-Kinsey, Warsaw, Carolyn and Henry McCoy, and Cathie Hirschy, LaGrange.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, Virgil, Elton, Harold, Keith, Kenneth, and Clyde Hirschy.
A Celebration of Life service was held Monday, October 21, at Wayne Dale United Methodist Church.
Burial is in Lindenwood Cemetery, Ft. Wayne, Ind.
