Ralph Wilt Jr.

Ralph R. Wilt Jr., 81, Wolcottville, died Saturday, March 22, 2014 in The Cedars, Leo.

    He was born October 3, 1932, in Ft. Wayne, Ind., to Ralph R. Wilt, Sr. and Audrey M. (Reynolds) Wilt.

    He and his wife moved from Ft. Wayne, Ind., to Adams Lake in Wolcottville in 1963, then to Dallas Lake in 1964 and lived there until 2009. He was a lifelong manufacturer’s representative. He was also an entrepreneur and established several successful businesses. He was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Wolcottville United Methodist Church, the LaGrange Masonic Lodge, Rome City American Legion Post 381, and Ft. Wayne Scottish Rite.

    He was married September 21, 1963, in Liberty Center, to Marilyn Cunningham. She preceded him in death on September 11, 2009.

    Surviving are one son, David Wilt, Ft. Wayne; three daughters, Deborah (Michael) Barrett, McCordsville, Elizabeth Shaw, Leo, Ind., and Julie (Curt) Castetter, Jacksonville, Fla.; a son-in-law, Terry Spradlin, Greenwood; 11 grandchildren, Dr. Jennifer Taylor, Julia Garcia, Lauren Milam, Jonathan Stults, Krystal Wilt, Kyle Wilt, Joshua Spradlin, Chandler Castetter, Alexandria Shaw, Abigail Spradlin, and Christian Castetter; two sisters, Bonnie Carroll and Betsy Dixon, both of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; and two brothers, Carl Wilt, North Webster, Ind., and John Wilt, Ft. Wayne, Ind.

    He was preceded in death by one daughter, Kerry Spradlin, and one sister, Lois Fleck.

    Visitation is 3-7 p.m. Monday, March 24, at Young Family Funeral Home Wolcottville Chapel and 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, at Wolcottville United Methodist Church.

    Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, at Wolcottville United Methodist Church with Reverend Jack Thomas officiating.

    Burial with military rites by Rome City American Legion Post 381, Kendallville VFW Post 2749, and Kendallville American Legion Post 86 will be in Woodland Cemetery, Wolcottville.

    Memorials may be directed to Wolcottville United Methodist Church or the Kerry Spradlin Scholarship Fund through the LaGrange County Community Foundation.
