Rachael Hunter

Rachael Mary Hunter, 92, Sarasota, Fla., formerly of LaGrange County, died Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Manor Care Nursing Home in Sarasota, Fla.

    She was born July 3, 1920, in Tully Township, Van Wert County, Ohio to Walter C. and Mary Emma (Tatman) Thornell.

    She was a 1938 graduate of Tully Township High School and along with her husband raised their family on their farm

north of South Milford in LaGrange County. She was a member of Woodruff Grove United Methodist Church near Wolcottville, where she was formerly active in various church activities including the Ladies' Aid. She was an honorary member of the Plato Home Extension Club.

    She was married October 26, 1939, in Convoy, Ohio, to Myron Benjamin Hunter. He preceded her in death on January 18, 2005.

    Surviving are three daughters, Betty and Ken Anspach, Van Wert, Ohio, Ruby and Steve Teeple, Bradenton, Fla., and Bonita and Harold Burtner, Muncie, Ind.; three sons, Stanley and Jean Hunter, Benton, Ky., Lowell and Dona Hunter, Oliver Lake, and Merrill Hunter, Kendallville; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Hunter, LaGrange; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Myron Thornell, Van Wert County, Ohio, and Bob Thornell, Paulding, Ohio.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Rodney and Leslie Hunter, two brothers, Earl and Arnold Thornell, one grandson, one granddaughter, and three great-grandsons.

    Visitation is 2-7 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville.

    Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, at Woodruff Grove United Methodist Church with Reverend Fred Kaine officiating.

    Burial will be in Lake Bethel Cemetery, LaGrange County.

    Memorials may be directed to Woodruff Grove United Methodist Church.
