Quilt gardens featured on national TV

Northern Indiana Amish Country’s Quilt Gardens along the Heritage Trail will be featured on “Sewing with Nancy” during the “Nancy’s Corner” segment. The show, exclusive to public television, airs throughout the U.S. plus Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

Producer and host Nancy Zieman will speak at length with Sonya Nash of the Elkhart County Convention and Visitors Bureau about this one-of-its-kind event. Nash, who is project manager for the quilt gardens along the Heritage Trail, details what visitors can expect to see and experience. She also makes note of the special appreciation quilters have for these gardens that bring quilt patterns to life using flowering plants.

The quilt gardens feature is included in the two-part series titled “Jackets for Real People”(segment 2526). The program is expected to air locally during February, but times vary since each PBS station makes the determination when to air the show. Those interested should contact their local station.

The quilt gardens along the Heritage Trail take place May 30 through Oct. 1 this year. More than 100,000 blooming annuals pack 19 large-scale quilt patterned gardens showcased throughout the communities of Elkhart, Bristol, Goshen, Middlebury, Nappanee, Shipshewana and Wakarusa. Eighteen outdoor hand-painted quilt art murals on display add to the experience.
