Cyclists can now travel from just west of Shipshewana all the way to Goshen on the Pumpkinvine Trail after three major sections were opened last Wednesday following a ribbon cutting in Middlebury.
Two sections of 1.2 miles each were opened, one from Wayne Ave. in Middlebury to the tunnel under US 20, and a second between CR 35 and CR 37. A short section connecting the Dairy Queen to Krider Park in Middlebury also opened.
The opening caps 20 years of effort by the Friends of the Pumpkinvine to establish the trail connecting Shipshewana and Goshen. The effort included collaboration between the friends group, the town of Shipshewana, the town of Middlebury and Elkhart County.
