Public Library News

All branches of the LaGrange County Public Library will be closed Dec. 24-26 in observance of Christmas. All branches will also be closed Dec. 31 through Jan. 2 for New Year’s.

eReader Petting Zoo…

Are you thinking of buying an eBook reader? The LaGrange County Library will hold an “eBook Reader Petting Zoo” beginning at 4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2, where you can hold and play with several different brands. Examine the different features and decide which one you like best.

Second Saturday Book Club…

The Second Saturday Book Club will meet at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10, at the Bread Box Bakery and Café, located at 120 Morton St. in Shipshewana.

This book club is open to any person age 16 and older who wishes to attend. This month the club will be discussing Once Upon a Town: The Miracle of the North Platte Canteen by Bob Greene.

The book is about millions of American soldiers, many of whom never left their hometowns before, crossing the nation by rail during the years of WWII on their way to training camps and distant theatres of battle. In a little town in Nebraska, countless thousands of them met with extraordinary hospitality. North Platte was a quiet town at the outbreak of the war, but its citizens gathered to provide, at their own expense, coffee, sandwiches, books, playing cards, and time to the young men who rolled through the railroad, “telling them that their country cared about them.”

Sounds of the season…

Local folk musician Nancy Blough will be performing a free concert of old time Christmas music from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday, Dec. 17, at the LaGrange County Public Library on Spring St. Come enjoy wonderful music for all ages.

Tuesdays are Snooze days…

Christmas is coming! Take a break from the Christmas rush and join Professor Snoozy and all the puppets for some great stories! Every Tuesday at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. there are stories and activities for preschool-age children.

On Dec. 6 hear Llama Llama, Holiday Drama. Preparing for Christmas can be overwhelming for little ones. Find out how Little Llama handles it.

Ever wait up for Santa on Christmas Eve? Little Bear wants to see Santa. Find out on Dec. 13 if he sees Santa or not with the story I’ve Seen Santa.

On Dec. 20, Drummer Boy will be read. Follow the adventure of a little wooden drummer boy at Christmas.

Decorate a sweet treat…

On Saturday, Dec. 10, at 2 p.m. come out to the LaGrange County Public Library and turn plain cookies into Christmas creations. This activity is fun for all ages and the library will provide the supplies needed.

Come as a family and work together or create a special cookie just for you!

 

 

Movie of the Month…

On Friday, Dec. 16, at 6 p.m. the LaGrange County Public Library will show Kung Fu Panda 2.

The library will provide free popcorn.

Help wanted…

The Super Bowl Host Committee is recruiting kids to decorate cards to welcome visitors to the Super Bowl in Indianapolis. They want to collect over 18,000 cards to be placed in hotel rooms that are reserved for this event. Want to help out? Pick up an official card template and instructions at any of the library branches.

Family Movie Night…

On Friday, Dec. 2 at 6 p.m. come to the Topeka Library and enjoy a showing of “The Smurfs.” Bring the whole family to watch the movie and munch on free popcorn.

Meet Ronald McDonald…

Ronald McDonald is coming to the Topeka Library at 3 p.m. on Friday, December 16. Bring the whole family and enjoy laughs with Ronald as he performs his show.

Library closings…

The Topeka Library will be closed December 24-26 due to Christmas. The Topeka Library will also be closed December 31 through January 2 due to New Years.
