The Prairie Heights varsity wrestling team has been tabbed to participate in the first annual Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association state duals tournament in Westfield Saturday, December 22, 2012.
The 24-team tournament will be divided into three classes with eight squads in each group. Teams losing in the first round will drop to a consolation bracket and have the opportunity to wrestle for third through eighth place in their respective class.
Prairie Heights will compete in Class A (small schools) along with Adams Central, Bremen, Churubusco, Lewis Cass, Milan, South Adams and South Putnam. Making up Class AAA (large schools) are Bloomington South, Center Grove, Elkhart Memorial, Evansville Mater Dei, Franklin, Indianapolis Cathedral, Penn and defending state champion Perry Meridian. The field in Class 2A (medium-sized schools) includes Culver Academy, Danville, Evansville Memorial, Heritage Hills, Jimtown, Muncie South, Southmont and Yorktown.
Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. with the finals to start at approximately 6 p.m. Tourney brackets are tentatively set to be announced by December 15.
