Lakeland finished fourth out of nine teams in the Prairie Heights Classic boys cross country race held Saturday morning in Brushy Prairie.
Eric Herber and Joseph Trost led the Laker effort by placing sixth and seventh, respectively. Herber crossed the finish line in a time of 17:05 and Trost stopped the clock at 17:14.
Mitch Herber finished 20th overall in 18:00, Andrew Duzan was 27th in 18:28 and Kyle Burchett took 35th in 19:01. Drew Faust (43rd in 19:36) and Mishael Theis (50th in 20:27) also competed for the Lakers.
Central Noble’s Ryan Smith zipped to medalist honors with a clocking of 15:55.
Fort Wayne Dwenger won the boys team championship with a score of 39 points. West Noble was second with 69, Wawasee third with 70 and Lakeland fourth with 87.
In the boys junior varsity race, Garett Chrisman paced the Lakeland pack with a time of 20:41, good enough for 26th position. Peter Thompson was 33rd in 21:08 and Corey Collins 48th in 22:26.
Christian Granados tallied a hat trick in powering the Prairie Heights soccer team to a 4-0 victory over the Bethany Christian junior varsity squad Saturday night in Goshen.
Granados netted the first of his three goals just seven minutes into the contest off a feed from Bo Murphy. Three minutes later, Darrin Cole booted home a shot with an assist from Murphy that gave the Panthers a 2-0 lead.
A dozen minutes into the second half, Granados connected on a direct kick to put Heights up, 3-0. Granados then completed his stellar night with a goal in the 60th minute.
Panther keeper Kyle Burkholder stopped each of the five Bethany shots he faced. Aiding Burkholder in his shutout effort was the play of defenders Murphy, Evan Gunthorp, Thomas Willett and Keegan Graham.
