Prairie Heights holds I.C.E. Banquet

Another year has come and gone for the I.C.E. students at Prairie Heights High School. Over the last year, 25 students spent half of their day at school and half a day out in the “real world” working. Over the school year, the students made bulletin boards, learned to create resumes, completed research projects, learned interviewing skills, and much more that will help them later on in life as they enter the work force.

On May 14 the students and their employers, as well as family, were invited to the 2011-2012 I.C.E. Employer Appreciation Banquet.

The evening started off with dinner featuring a menu voted on by the students, and then went to the stage area for recognition. Each student prepared a one- to two-minute speech about their job and the experiences they went through. While the students were speaking, several pictures of them on the job were shown in a slide presentation.

Plaques were given to each boss and the microphone was handed over so each one could speak about their employee. Tears, laughs, the good times, and the bad were all shared. After each student and boss had finished speaking, I.C.E. Coordinator Mike Gordon shared his thoughts on each student and presented them with a portfolio. This was Gordon’s last year as the I.C.E. coordinator as he will be retiring at the end of the school year.

Each portfolio has a resume, cover letter, thank you letter, a certificate of completion of the I.C.E. year, and job skills each student possesses. Every student’s portfolio was designed according to the student’s descriptions and job titles.
