Prairie Heights Girls Basketball Lose First

Garrett dealt the Prairie Heights varsity girls basketball team its first loss of the season, 47-41 Wednesday night at Paul Bateman Gym in Garrett.

The Lady Railroaders took an 11-9 lead after one period, then put together an 11-6 spurt in the second to build a 22-15 halftime edge. Brandi Dawson, who finished atop the Garrett scorebook with 14 points, netted two of her six field goals in the second frame.

Both teams had trouble finding the range in the third quarter, as they combined to tally eight points between them. The stanza ended with Garrett holding a 26-18 lead.

Prairie Heights finally caught fire in the fourth period behind the play of Shawna Carbone, Tianna Terry and Tressa Terry. Each of the players produced six points to fuel a furious rally that brought the Lady Panthers to within three (44-41).

However, two clutch free throws by Kaitlin Wisel and another by Dawson in the final seconds thwarted the Heights comeback and sealed the Lady Railroaders’ fifth win in seven decisions.

Katie DePew backed up Dawson on the Garrett scoring column with 10 markers. Jordyn Knott added eight.

Tressa Terry totaled 12 points, three steals and three assists for the 4-1 Lady Panthers. Shawna Carbone collected 10 points and 13 rebounds. Tianna Terry had three assists.
