Prairie Heights boys down Lakeland

A fast start and a strong finish allowed Prairie Heights to put away county rival Lakeland, 59-47 in NECC boys basketball action Saturday night in Brushy Prairie.

The Panthers jumped out to a 14-5 lead by the end of the first quarter and held a 26-14 edge as the teams broke for halftime. After the Lakers used a 22-14 surge in the third period to cut the margin to four, Heights went on a 19-11 binge over the final eight minutes to secure the win.

Jacob Heller dropped in 27 points to spearhead the Panther attack. The 6-3 junior also grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds and dished out four assists.

Sophomore Cody Bachelor and senior Zach Shepard each chipped in eight markers to the Heights total. Shepard added seven boards to his ledger.

Seniors Brant Betts and Daemyn Priestley each tallied 15 points to pace Lakeland. Classmate Chandler Mynhier collected seven rebounds and three steals.

The victory improved Prairie Heights to 8-1 in the NECC and to 13-6 overall. The Panthers can wrap up at least a share of the league championship with a win at Hamilton this Friday.

Lakeland dipped to marks of 4-5 and 7-11 with the setback.
