Prairie Heights baseball team splits a pair

Prairie Heights rallied to edge Bronson, 6-5 in varsity baseball action Monday night in Michigan.

Trailing 3-2 entering the sixth inning, the Panthers tallied three runs to take a 5-3 lead. They added an insurance run in the top of the seventh then held off a Bronson rally in the bottom of the frame to nail down their ninth victory of the campaign.

Corey Johnson went 3-3 with a double and three RBI to pace Prairie Heights at the plate. Jared Beechy lined a two-run single and Zeb Domer cracked an RBI single.

Bo Murphy went the distance on the mound to earn the win. He scattered 10 hits, did not walk a batter and whiffed four.

Tuesday night in Churubusco, Prairie Heights fell to the host Eagles, 3-1 in NECC play.

The Panthers took a 1-0 lead on a solo home run in the first inning off the bat of Jacob Heller. That would be all the offense Prairie Heights could muster against Eagle hurler Jordan Howell, who limited the visitors to four hits while striking out five.

Churubusco tied the game with a run in the fourth and took the lead with a two-spot in the fifth. Logan Harris delivered one of the Eagle tallies with a double. Derek Bowyer had the other Busco RBI.

Heller finished with two hits for Heights. Corey Johnson and Tanner Terry each had one.

Johnson pitched well in defeat for the Panthers. He gave up four hits, walked two and fanned eight.

The loss dropped Prairie Heights to 2-5 in the NECC.
