Praire Heights girls gut out win at Bronson

Prairie Heights gutted out a 53-46 non-conference girls basketball victory at Bronson, Michigan Wednesday night.

The 8-9 Lady Panthers, playing 24 hours after falling at East Noble by 30, led Bronson for all but a few seconds, slipping behind only briefly (13-12) at the start of the second period. A basket by Tressa Terry and two free throws by McKenzie Kain quickly regained the lead for the visitors from Indiana.

Terry, who finished with 18 points, produced a steal and layup at the halftime buzzer, giving Heights a 31-23 cushion. But Bronson, behind four field goals by Skyler Sobeski and three from Liz Baker, sliced the difference to three (42-39) by the end of the third quarter.

Two quick buckets by Shawna Carbone, who equaled teammate Terry’s 18 markers, restored the Lady Panthers to a five-point margin (46-41). A couple of defensive gems and four free throws by Terry late kept the host Lady Vikings at bay.

In addition to her scoring, Carbone dominated the glass by snaring 12 rebounds. Terry wound up with eight steals.

Sobeski and Baker each tallied 12 points to pace Bronson, now 6-4 on the season.

Tuesday night in Kendallville, the host Lady Knights used runs of 16-8 and 15-4 in the middle two periods to leave the Lady Panthers in the dust and roll to a 67-37 triumph. Jaymee Wolfe netted 15 points and Tiffani Wilson 10 to pace an 11-player scoring attack for 12-4 East Noble.

Carbone was the lone Lady Panther in double figures with 15 points.
