Shortly after 11:30 p.m. on March 24, officers from the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department made a traffic stop in the 7000 block of CR 300N in Mongo.
According to the police report, the driver, Joseph E. Spillner, gave officers a false name, Dustin C. Edmondson. Officers knew the Edmondson name was false due to previous encounters with Spillner. A K9 unit was requested due to knowledge of possible drug activity involving Spillner. After the K9 unit arrived and officers began to approach Spillner’s vehicle, Spillner put the vehicle into drive and took off.
A pursuit began that had officers chasing Spillner around area roads in Mongo and ended in a field east of the original traffic stop. Spillner then fled into some nearby woods. A K9 was employed to try track Spillner but was unsuccessful.
When officers conducted an inventory on Spillner’s vehicle, a gray package containing a green, leafy substance was found. The package field tested positive for marijuana. Officers also allegedly located paraphernalia in the vehicle.
Charges of resisting law enforcement, false informing, driving while suspended prior, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia are being sent to the LaGrange County Prosecutor’s Office.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Joseph E. Spillner is asked to call the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department at 463-7491 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-342-STOP.
