Nutrition changes for the 2014-2015 school year were discussed at the Prairie Heights School Board meeting Monday night.
Nutritionist Kaylyn MacKillop was at the meeting to speak about the changes that will be implemented for the new calorie, saturated fat and sodium requirements.
“All the food next year on the campus will be regulated, including vending machines and fundraisers,” said MacKillop.
Bob Ledgerwood asked if there was anything being done for improvements in the taste of the food.
“The kids are going home hungry because of the changes in the nutrition requirements because they don’t like the taste,” Ledgerwood stated.
MacKillop said that there had been some improvements of taste in the whole grains, but they are working on their new dietary guidelines for 2015.
In other news, there will be a public hearing at 7 p.m. on June 2 regarding the hiring of Jeff Reid as the new superintendent.
The board also voted on the roofing and HVAC construction bids. Construction will be starting after graduation.
