Bobby Blum and the Prairie Heights Panthers put on a memorable performance this past Friday night in beating Central Noble, 49-7 for their first win of the 2012 campaign.
The junior halfback rushed for an astonishing, 409 yards on 23 carries and scored five touchdowns. His scoring runs covered 11, 32, two, 12 and 46 yards. Blum also had a run of 54 yards that set up his first scoring jaunt of the evening, which broke a 7-7 tie midway through the opening quarter and put the Panthers ahead to stay.
Joey Barry tallied the other two Prairie Heights touchdowns on scampers of 14 and 33 yards. Panther place-kicker Corey Johnson was a perfect, 7-7 on PAT tries.
Alex Vice accounted for the lone Cougar score in the game on a 61-yard burst in the first period.
The 49 points is the most scored by Prairie Heights since it tallied 50 in a 50-29 victory over Fremont in 2003. A year ago, the Panthers racked up 48 points in a 48-42 win over Central Noble.
The triumph lifted Prairie Heights to 1-3 overall and in the NECC. Coach Vince Royer’s Panthers travel to Woodlan this Friday for a non-conference tilt. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
