Prairie Heights went 3-2 and Lakeland logged a 1-4 mark in Saturday’s NECC Super Dual wrestling meet held at Eastside.
After losing to Fairfield (43-42) and Churubusco (45-30) in the first two rounds, the Panthers came back to trim Westview (47-24), Eastside (48-33) and West Noble (44-29) in the final three sessions. The loss to Fairfield came down to the eighth tie-breaker (most first points scored).
Joe Boots won all five of his individual matches in the 132-pound weight division to lead the Prairie Heights effort. Lane Waite (138) and Bailey Thompson (220) each posted 4-1 slates. Going 3-2 were Doug Levitz (126), Mike Gaetz (195) and Quinten Bland (152).
Lakeland’s lone team win came in the opening round over Angola (38-36). The Lakers were beaten in their last four matches by Fairfield (50-38), Eastside (40-39), Central Noble (42-36) and Westview (45-36).
Cole Long and T.J. Thompson spearheaded the Lakeland cause on the day by going 5-0 in their respective weight divisions. Lukas Long and Tristyn Martz both forged 4-1 marks, while Jackson Evans and Caleb Long finished 3-2.
