Prairie Heights doubled up county rival Westview, 12-6 in NECC softball last Thursday evening in Emma.
A three-run first inning, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Rebekah Frey, earned the Lady Panthers an early lead. Heights then tacked on five runs in the top of the fourth – four coming in on singles by Shawna Carbone and Brennica Smith – to give the visitors an 8-0 advantage.
Westview chopped the difference in half with a four-spot in its half of the fourth. Brooke Yoder and Steph Mowery each drove in a run with hits.
Hannah Witham’s two-run double in the sixth drew Westview to within three (9-6). But Prairie Heights responded by scoring three times in the top of the seventh to put the game out of reach. Samantha Fish knocked in two of the insurance markers with a single.
Taryn Neff started in the pitcher’s circle for the Lady Panthers and got the win, allowing eight hits, striking out five and walking one in four innings. Carbone worked the last three frames to earn a save, giving up three hits, fanning three and walking two.
