Panther wrestlers with comeback win

Joey Blakeley’s pin of Fremont’s Nathan Claxton 13 seconds into the second period of their 195-pound match lifted the visiting Prairie Heights Panthers to a dramatic, 37-35 victory over the Eagles Tuesday night.

Kade Gerbers set up Blakeley’s heroics by earning a 6-4 decision over Fremont opponent Brad Owen in the 182-pound bout. The win by Gerbers cut what had been a 35-28 Fremont lead down to four.

Joining Blakeley with pins for Prairie Heights were Vincent Chilcote (106) and Doug Levitz (145). Riley Rasler (126) won by major decision, while both Lane Waite (138) and Dakota Johnson (285) received forfeits.

The victory was the eighth straight for the Panthers and concluded a 17-12 overall slate and a 7-2 tour of the NECC. Coach Brett Smith’s squad competes this Saturday in the NECC tournament at Fairfield.
