Panther girls overrun Lakers

 

Prairie Heights ran its NECC girls basketball record to 2-0 last Friday night in Brushy Prairie with a 59-37 triumph over arch-rival Lakeland.

Shawna Carbone poured in 20 points and Rebekah Frey tossed in 16 markers to pace the Lady Panthers, who jumped to leads of 16-7 and 25-16 after the initial two periods. Carbone sank 8-12 shots from the field and Frey swished 12-14 of her free throw tries.

Allison Young joined her two Heights teammates in double figures with 13 points.

Carbone also topped the Lady Panther rebound chart with 10 boards. Young led the victors in steals with five and Tressa Terry collected a team-best five assists.

Ashtin Kaminer highlighted the Lakeland offensive effort with 14 points. Kaminer also garnered six rebounds, four steals and three assists.

Abi Thompson and Michaela Moore each grabbed six rebounds for the Lady Lakers, who fell to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the NECC with the loss.
