Prairie Heights split a varsity baseball doubleheader with Whitko Saturday in Brushy Prairie.
The Panthers scored four runs in the second inning en route to a 7-3 triumph over the Wildcats in the opener. Corey Johnson socked hits in each of his four plate appearances, one of which went for two bases. Jacob Heller knocked in three runs with a double and two singles. Casey Rowe poked a two-run single and Quinten Bland had two hits and an RBI.
Heller worked the first 6.1 innings on the mound to log the pitching win, giving up eight hits and walking four. Bo Murphy retired the final two Whitko batters to earn a save.
Coach Nick Pfafman’s team was on the verge of a sweep when it took a 6-5 lead into the seventh inning of the nightcap. However, a trio of Panther errors led to a four-run Whitko rally which allowed the visitors to escape with a 9-6 triumph and a split of the twin-bill.
Johnson continued his hot hitting with three more safeties, while Jacob Heller blasted a two-run homer, his seventh dinger of the campaign. Dylan Stayner had two hits.
The 15-8 Panthers meet Central Noble this Wednesday in the first round of the Westview sectional.
