Prairie Heights swept varsity baseball a doubleheader from visiting Lakewood Park this past Saturday.
The Panthers scored three runs in the first, third and fourth innings en route to an 11-1 victory in the opener. Bobby Blum knocked in three runs with a couple of singles. Matt Handshoe collected two hits and two RBI, Dylan Stayner poked an RBI single, and Corey Johnson doubled.
Johnson pitched the first five innings to get the win, striking out nine and walking five. Kris O’Connor worked the final frame.
In the second contest, the Panthers broke a 2-all tie with three runs in the fifth inning, padded their lead with two more markers in the sixth, then held on to forge a 7-4 triumph.
Jacob Heller led Heights to the win. Heller had three hits and an RBI at the plate, and pitched six innings with eight strikeouts and three walks.
Johnson, Handshoe and Spencer Hess all had RBI singles for the Panthers in the closer.
Prairie Heights began its season last Thursday with a 4-1 loss at Garrett.
Heller, Ryan Day and Quinten Bland had the lone Panther hits off Garrett hurler Kylan LaMotte. Heller scored the only Heights run in the seventh.
Day started on the hill for the Panthers, allowing eight hits, fanning three and walking three in five frames of work. Bo Murphy pitched one inning of scoreless relief with a strikeout.
