On June 15, the LaGrange Post Office officially welcomed Pam (Cundiff) Wainwright as their new postmaster. Wainwright grew up in Howe and lived there until 1975, when she married John Wainwright. The couple moved to Wolcottville, where they now reside.
Wainwright started as a rural mail carrier substitute in 1986. She became a full-time carrier in 1994 at the Wolcottville Post Office.
From 2005-2013, Wainwright was the postmaster in Howe, where she enjoyed working with and for the people of her hometown. She said that the larger LaGrange office is “a lot more demanding” so far, though it is going well. While the Howe post office has three carriers, Wainwright manages eight in LaGrange, as well as two clerks. “I really like it here,” she said, despite the larger workload. She mentioned that LaGrange hasn’t had a local person as a postmaster in years, so it was great for her and the other employees that she came in “already knowing everyone in the office.” Wainwright has worked in LaGrange for a couple of weeks, and she enjoys the staff.
Her husband John is currently a rural mail carrier in Wolcottville. Pam and her husband have three children: Jenessa Boniface of New Jersey, Jenae Garretson of Wolcottville, and John Wainwright of Ft. Wayne. They also have three grandchildren.
“I will miss my staff and customers in Howe. However, I am looking forward to the challenge at a larger office and I have a great staff in LaGrange,” Wainwright said of her new position.
