Pair arrested, suspected of taking charity donations

A pair of suspects turned themselves in on April 25, less than 24 hours after photos of the two allegedly taking a donation canister from a South Milford convenience store were posted on Facebook.

Monica Babin, 41, and Garrison Beitz, 30, both of Kendallville, turned themselves in and were booked into the LaGrange County Jail on preliminary charges of Theft, a Class D Felony.

The pair is suspected of taking a Muscular Dystrophy Association donation canister off of the counter at the South Milford store.

According to the sheriff’s department’s Facebook update on the case, the initial information reached over 30,000 people in just over four hours. Nearly 20 tips were received in over four hours that helped the department identify and arrest the pair in less than 24 hours.

It was also discovered that Beitz had four outstanding arrest warrants in three surrounding counties.
