Open Range RV is growing – again. In what is surely becoming a common theme, Open Range RV Co. of Shipshewana is continuing to expand and capitalize on the success their units have shown in the marketplace – and their growth shows it.
According to an article by Jeff Kurowski in the April 2013 issue of RV Executive Today magazine, Open Range RV Co. has moved up to 5th place among fifth wheel producers, replacing Coachmen in the Top 5 Rankings. According to the article Open Range RV Co. captured 3.2 percent of the fifth wheel retail market in 2012, and is only a few units behind fourth place Palomino, who came in with 3.3 percent of the total fifth wheel market. This is welcome news to Randy Graber, president of Open Range RV.
“It is an honor that our high-quality fifth wheels and travel trailers are being recognized as providing a customer with a great unit with exceptional amenities, and at a price that is affordable.” Graber said.
Looking back over the years since the formation of Open Range RV, the company has experienced explosive growth. From the time of the founding of the plant in 2007, with just three employees, the plant has grown year over year at least 10.5 percent per year, with the best year-to-year adjusted growth average being an increase of nearly 109 percent from 2009 to 2010. The total growth for 2012 over 2011 was 17.3 percent. The signs of the continued growth of Open Range doesn’t show any signs of letting up, either. “So far, at the end of the first quarter of 2013, comparing this to 2012, we are experiencing a 31.1 percent increase in retail sales. We are truly humbled that our customers and dealers believe in our products,” Graber stated.
Open Range RV, founded in Shipshewana in 2007, has quickly grown to become a leader in the production of high quality fifth wheels and travel trailers, and has been recognized with multiple “Quality Circle Awards” by the RV Dealers Association. Open Range RV’s lines are recognized industry wide for their quality, innovative floor designs, amenities, and low weight amongst many other features. “The demand for Open Range’s recreational vehicles led our relatively new company to continue to grow during the recent recession, and as the economy has recovered, demand for new units has increased tremendously,” said Pam Graber, vice president of operations for Open Range RV Co.
With this growth comes a new set of demands. Open Range RV Co. is looking to expand their facilities to accommodate the new growth, which will also necessitate the hiring of additional personnel at their facilities.
"Open Range RV Company has been a great partner in Shipshewana and LaGrange County, which is why the company has been the recipient of the LCEDC’s Business Excellence award three years in a row," stated Keith Gillenwater, president and CEO of the LaGrange County Economic Development Corporation. "Their rapid growth in such a short period of time is a demonstration of their company’s quality craftsmanship and is a testament to Open Range’s motto: ‘Enjoy the Journey!’ We look forward to continuing to build upon our great relationship with Open Range RV Company as they expand."
