On March 26 at 10:27 a.m., LaGrange County 911 dispatchers received a call about a house fire on the west side of Oliver Lake.
The Johnson Township Fire Department was paged. Police officers arrived and advised that the home was fully engulfed.
Twenty-seven firefighters from five fire departments battled the blaze. The fire was under control shortly after noon and the last fire units left the scene shortly before 5 p.m.
There was one person in the home at the time of the fire. He was transported to Parkview LaGrange Hospital for unknown injuries.
According to the fire department, the house was a total loss and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Johnson Township Fire Department received mutual aid from the LaGrange Fire Department, Topeka Fire Department, Orange Township Fire Department, Kendallville Fire Department, LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department, Wolcottville Police Department, and Parkview EMS. Howe and Shipshewana firefighters were on standby.
